- The Mountain Aquifer is the
most significant source of best
quality potable water, supplying some 600 million cubic meter per year
for both Israelis and Palestinians, who shared this area.
|
5
|
- The West Bank, situated above the Mountain Aquifer, is home to 2.0 million Palestinians who
do not have basic sanitation.
- Their sewage penetrating through the perforated Karst Rock, has already
contaminated most of water
resources, like springs and borehole wells.
|
6
|
- The US and German Governments
committed $300 million for
sanitation of the urban areas, but, the rural areas with 1.2
million people, remain without
planning and no finance.
|
7
|
- A simple, low-cost, easy to build, On-Site
system, for every house in the rural areas of the West Bank.
- The plan is to produce a tertiary quality
effluent so that it may be discharged to a soil absorption plot
without the risk of contamination
to the Aquifer.
|
8
|
- Alternatively, it may used for crops
irrigation and thus, to offset the investment costs and enhanced local
economy.
|
9
|
- Every house is to be provided with a large
Septic Tank.
- The sewage from a cluster of houses or
section of a village, flows through a sewer collection system into a
Constructed Wetland.
|
10
|
- The final effluent is piped
into the adjacent fields for irrigation,
- flowing by gravity or lifted by
a solar pump.
|
11
|
- Local system without a long sewer system, simple to build by local
people, affordable, suitable to the social structure and the
traditional land ownership in the villages.
|
12
|
- Subsurface flow, no visible water, no attraction to mosquito, no health
risk to humans and animals.
- Natural wastewater treatment plant, sustainable eco-system, no use of
chemical, no energy requirements and therefore, no contribution to
global warming.
- Highly popular On-Site system recommended by the EPA of the USA.
- The construction cost is divided between donor organization who
purchase the materials and the
villager's self work contribution.
